About the Photographs
These photos are my visual diary. I started taking pictures in
the summer of 2001 with a DV camera with megapixel still
capability. I had bought a Sony PC100 to create and edit
computer graphics, but I instantly fell in love with using
photography to record the beauty of the real world around me.
Interestingly, I have yet to appreciate the use of video in the
same way. In January of 2002 I bought a Sony P1, a 3 megapixel
digicam, and many of the pictures here were taken with that (or
the P5 that eventually replaced it, or the P9 that I have now in
August 2004). A few were taken by friends.
I save almost every picture I take. Occasionally I take the best
and edit them for public display. Each photo is selected,
cropped, and corrected by hand, then a perl program generates
the index page. Another perl program runs the navigation
interface and displays the photo in a frame with a caption, if one
is defined.
The perl programs are free software. The indexer is derived from
windex, and
the framer is custom. Here is my
version of windex, and here is the framer.
Here is the index of indices to all the photos.
