Electric Sheep MegaPacks
Just uploaded 9GB of
Electric Sheep in
megapacks (
mirror), where it joins the 2.8GB
already available. This is the easiest way to get your flock going if the automatic downloader isn't working.
Instructions: Download one or more, unzip, and place the mpg files in your cache directory. By default on Windows XP that's "c:\windows\system32\electricsheep-cache\mpeg", On Mac OS X it's "~/Library/Application Support/ElectricSheep", and on Linux it's "~/.sheep". On Vista, it's the same as on XP but you need to create the "mpeg" subdirectory yourself.
Thanks Dreamhosters!

Fuck yeah! I've been waiting for years for this to happen. I got a new computer and its the most pwn. 24" iMac. These 11+GB will be fan-bloody-tastic.
Cheers, guy.
Excellent!
electric sheep ftw
i downloaded electric sheep for mac os x and i have gotten it to work with some megapacks, but it is all pixelated/grainy and there are pauses when it goes from sheep to sheep.
I can't download new sheep via the screensaver because of my network's firewall (and I don't have the ability to change anything), but I can download the megapacks manually. They're in my cache folder, but they won't work on screensaver; it just keeps trying to download a new one.
yeah. thanks man. This is the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In order for the program to work in a 64-bit version of vista, the screen saver must be in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and the videos in C:\Windows\System32\electricsheep-cache\mpeg by default they are both installed within the SysWOW64 folder.
I was just watching a rather wierd thing about a bunch of riverdancers dressed in kind of military outfits.
this relates to screen savers in a way that should be obvious to anyone who really knows anything.
id like to join

love the sheep.
AAArgh!!
Today the megapack link gives an "HTTP 404" ERROR!
I can't live without those beautiful sheeps!!
my account went over quota, it should return soon. You can donate directly to my bandwidth bills here: http://www.dreamhost.com/donate.cgi?id=8924
i believe that would also bring the megapacks back up, but i don't know how fast or for how long. thanks!
couldn't you store the megapack on archive.org or so???
the link is down :(
Now it works again : )
ok i put one of them on archive, see http://draves.org/blog/archives/000529.html
Did you incredibly smart people know that you can rename any MPG file to (00202=82541=82194=82014.mpg) or similar and it reads just fine? Find an old one that you DONT like rename your MPG to that name. Done. Tested working, with Vista Dreamscene content.

does anyone know what the default cache directory is on vista? doesnt seem to be able to unzip correctly
For the poster above, someone already posted:

Personally I have Vista 32 and the default directory of system32\electricsheep-cache\mpeg works fine.
ok
Why don't you put them on BitTorrent too?
Hopefully this will provide for some longer sequences. :) Just a little advice to save traffic: If you already have the 98 a,b,c megapacks, _don't_ download 99 a,b - those contain only doublets.
Wonderful stuff, downloaded 7-8 gigs of the stuff, and that is plenty for me. Really great screen saver!
looking forward to see this thing
blabla bla
Im running on a macbook pro Os X and i having issues getting sheep to download on there own. Anyone else getting this?
How long is the initial installation supposed to take?
I'm running on a Mac Power PC G4 64-bit graphics card, on top of a 1.25-mega hertz processor.
... It's been like roughly five hours so far + no download process gauge.
Just a FYI, if you run linux and windows on the same box and want to share sheep in both environments, copy everything from your .sheep directory to you mpeg directory on your windows drive then delete your .sheep directory and create a symlink pointing to your windows cache/mpeg drive with the command "ln -s /media/disk/Program\ Files/ElectricSheep/cache/mpeg ~/.sheep"
totally f'n inspiring shit here...got this running on the computer i make music with and it's da' real shit - no doubt. fuckin' hilarious riverdance comment dennis... cheers!
hey mattmonkey - duh! like, state the obvious dude...symlink? you should get out more bro'...
No offense...But, what is the point of downloading all the mega packs only for the engine to delete them all right afterwards? I downloaded all of them, unzipped them and placed them into the proper folder...and after the screensaver runs, I went back to check the folder, and *poof* they were all deleted. According to your FAQ, old sheep are deleted...which I assume is what is happening. Any advice?
@noir: increase the cache size to hold more sheep. this setting is in the configuration dialog.
if you have XP 64-bit version you need to put the downloaded files in 'C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\electricsheep-cache\mpeg'
I noticed the same thing, that my sheep were being deleted. I want to know, what would happed if I put the cache to 0, would my computer explode, slow down, something? Or is it completely safe to put it to zero?
0 cache size means unlimited. it's safe but it will eventually take a lot of disk space.

The same is happening to me, can anybody help me out?
I have Vista 32 bit, and i want the sheep to play continually without skipping in between the clips, do you have longer clips or a way to combine them so they do not skip?
I have the same problem on Vista 32-bit, skipping in between clips and pixelated. Please advise. Thanks.
I am using Vista 32-bit. And every time I unzip the videos into the default directory of system32\electricsheep-cache. I get spammed with popups of "Rundll32 Error" and saying the program has stopped working and or is not responding. Any idea hwy this is happening?
booom !
Lets Help seed this file on TPB! It's 11GB

I saw a vid on youtube, and thought i just had to try this out. unfortunatly, my internet is a 64Kb connection (yup Kb not even KB), so downloading these packs is going to take a few weeks :) Q how many packs are really needed? if i were to download just the first 101MB, how many "sheeps" is this? how long would my screensaver last?
NN
wow, 6 kb/s for a 800 mb file, can i come over with my usb drive? seriously you made a nice tool, but people wont donwload it under these circumstances
and fuck this security code! even worse than rapidshare
OK...so are these megapacks NEW sheep? Or are they combined packs of the old sheep into one "megapack" for easier download?
okay. so i just downloaded the program itself, but nothing is downloading and I'm having trouble interpreting directions on what to do. Can someone please help me? it would mean the world to me. this program is incredible.
please respond
THANK YOU!!
Dear god this is going to take forever. The link is down half the time and now that it is my BROADBAND connection is downloading at like 3 kb/s. YAY!!!!
-_-
