FLAM4: GPU Acceleration

I am very pleased to announce an alpha version of the fractal flame renderer is available that uses GPU acceleration. The code is under the GPL and can be downloaded from Sourceforge. Many thanks to Steve/Keldor for writing and releasing it! It uses DX10 shaders. I don't have Vista or any kind of Windows so i can't try it out myself, but i'm very excited about helping him develop it into a tool for all of us, and of course your input will be much appreciated too. Right now this is for developers rather than end users. If you try it out, please let me know what happens, good or bad. Posted by spot at April 10, 2008 07:24 PM

I guess this may make a lot of my work a bit obsolete... I've been working on a real-time interactive version for XBox360 and DirectX9 capable windows PC's via XNA. There are a few issues with DX9 in terms of precision, but I can decent quality at interactive framerates at 1080p along with interactive 5-axis control of various transform parameters. I'd like to try out Flam4, but have zero desire to install Vista, so in that sense, it seems OpenGL would be the more logical choice over DX10 when it comes to supporting the other 99% of the machines out there running variants of flam3. I would love to see an OpenGL version! Posted by: spot at April 14, 2008 01:04 PM
Tried it, but unfortunately doesn't work on 64 bit Vista. I get a "side by side configuration" error. Posted by: zarvos at May 17, 2008 02:40 PM
enh, should rephrase that - "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect." Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Posted by: zarvos at May 17, 2008 02:47 PM
